This was kind of cool

So a few years ago I illustrated a f*ck book.  It was sort of an instructional how to.  If you took the Joy of Sex and gave it a modern twist with a comic style instead of a cheesy photo approach it would be this book.  I think the book got a lot of mixed reviews and I'll be the first to admit the illustrations are not what I would I like them to have been.  Not having much to do with the book at this point I had somewhat written it off.  But recently many people directed my attention to a tweet (a twit?) by Kevin Smith.  He says something along the lines of "I'm 40 years old and I yanked it to the drawings in Sex is Fun".  Apparently he approved.  And honestly, thats good enough for me.

PS:I wonder if he caught any of the pop culture references I snuck in.  I remember the publisher made me take out a scene where He-man was getting it on with Man-at-Arms.

more reformatting

Comic formatting

So I've been going through and reformatting old Earp pages from a few years back.  When we started we were doing pages at 10.25x6.625 or 11x17. Recently however we switched over to the standard webcomic format.  This makes it easier to publish online as well as self publish.  Printing this size is much more cost effective.  Last time we printed books it cost about $4 per book and we were selling them at a loss.  But hopefully this newer batch will be cheaper to print.  Due to the size change though I've had to go back and edit old pages which is kind of like assembling a puzzle in the sense that they end up getting chopped down in PS and reassembled.  But it also means I have to fill in the gaps by drawing new content.  Here is an example from "Said the Pilgrim to the Duke".  The old page is on top, the reedit is on the bottom.

Also, if you are reading this you should go buy Justin's story in this magazine!

Wow, I don't know what browser you're using but Firefox does not handle these colors well.  I assure you the cmyk print version and even just the rgb jpeg don't look quite so oversaturated.  Try it in Chrome, Safari, Opera, IE, whatever.

An occasionally more practical application for drawing

So as it turns out drawing isn't just for doodling pitchers of Superman punchin' a dude, or to illustrate your favorite fine mustachioed gentleman. It can also be used for fine art, architecture.... or in this case designing a litterbox cover on scrap paper while eating spicy cheese curds at the Chatterbox.

I need to fill some nail holes, sand, and paint it. But then it will be done and my kittens will be happy. Also, here is a picture of Finn. BATH-TIME!
